The HMDL History Committee has supported both financially and with labor totaling close to 500 hours of work, the effort to create and release the 'Chronology of the Civil War in Fairfax County'. The Bull Run Civil War Round Table sponsored the project as a Civil War sesquicentennial activity. The 600-page main volume covers the prelude to war through 1862. Ed Wenzel is the author. The work has been meticulously researched

HMDL’s involvement has also stretched over 4 years and includes assisting with portions of the book covering our area, and also leading/focusing on the creation of the index (published separately in a 200 page volume), preparing over 350 photographs for publication, as well as 50 maps.

The book was just released with a hearty endorsement on the cover of both the text volume and the index volume by Ed Bearss, Historian Emeritus of the U.S. National Park Service.
